正在上小学的孙女佳佳讨厌学皮影，爷爷逼她学。镇上为了城乡文化振兴，重新启动时隔多年的皮影戏大赛，佳佳报名，受到爷爷折磨般的训练，与此同时，佳佳慢慢理解皮影文化的含义。但是随着市场不景气，爷爷受到打击，下定决心要放弃皮影，孙女开始帮爷爷找回信心，孙女日日夜夜坚持，令爷爷想到当年的初心，最后关键时刻，爷爷赶到，帮助孙女完成比赛。
